The Place I Fit Will Not Exist Until I Make It - James Baldwin

So we made it! At the Passion Center, we are a holistically minded, justice-oriented, liberating community of Jesus followers. We passionately and purposefully educate and encourage people to draw on their faith to build a more just world. Our community believes that as disciples of Jesus, we are called to be God's love language to the world!

At The Passion Center, this phrase embodies the heart of why we exist. We created this space because we recognize a deep, undeniable truth: many of us have searched for belonging in places that were never designed with us in mind. We've walked into rooms hoping to feel seen, heard, and valued, only to realize that our identities, stories, and voices were often overlooked or dismissed.

The Passion Center exists because we believe that waiting for spaces to welcome us as we are is not enough. We must build those spaces ourselves. Spaces where authenticity is celebrated, where questions are encouraged, and where faith is not confined to tradition but expanded through lived experience.

This is a place for those who have felt like outsiders, those who have been told they don’t fit, and those who have dared to dream of something different—a community rooted in the radical love of Jesus, and his heart for justice and the flourishing of all.

When we say, "The place I fit will not exist until I make it," we are claiming our power as creators, visionaries, and leaders. We are no longer waiting for permission to belong. We are constructing sacred spaces where our voices shape the narrative, our presence defines the culture, and our purpose drives the mission.

The Passion Center is not just a virtual hush harbor/bohio; it is a community that sees each other, values each other and spurs one another on to do the good work, the troublemaking work of Jesus and justice.  And together, we are building the very place our souls need for such a time as this.

Join us as we follow Jesus, love people, and pursue justice together!

Our Distinctives As A Faith Community
Could This Be The Place for You?
Driven by the Spirit of God and inspired by captivity theology, The Passion Center is a virtual faith community grounded in principles that reflect our commitment to educating, equipping, and empowering individuals and communities to recognize and resist all forms of captivity—whether spiritual, social, economic, or political. We believe faith without justice is incomplete, and our mission is rooted in the active pursuit of liberation as both a divine calling and a communal responsibility.

Through teaching, advocacy, and creating spaces where people feel safe, seen, and supported, we seek to embody the liberating Gospel that Bishop Raymond Rivera articulates in Liberty to the Captives. His work, in part, informs our theology and shapes our practices, pushing us to be a center of transformative discipleship, prophetic witness, and radical love.

  1. Holistic Liberation: True freedom involves both spiritual renewal and socio-political transformation. Captivity is not just a personal or spiritual issue; it manifests in oppressive systems that perpetuate poverty, racism, and inequality.

  2. Contextual Biblical Interpretation: Captivity Theology calls for reading Scripture through the lens of the oppressed, much like Jesus did in Luke 4:18-19, where He declares His mission to "proclaim liberty to the captives." This approach resists colonized interpretations of the Bible that ignore the lived realities of marginalized people.

  3. Prophetic Engagement: The Church must be a prophetic voice against injustice, not a passive institution aligned with the status quo. Captivity Theology compels believers to confront systemic sin and advocate for societal structural change.

  4. Empowerment of the Marginalized: The belief that those who experience oppression are not merely recipients of aid but active agents of their own liberation. This shifts the narrative from charity to justice, emphasizing solidarity over saviorism.
